Let’s talk about taking it slow…when work is slow.

Bonjour Artistes!

Let’s talk about taking it slow when work is slow.

It’s March 2025 and most of my clients have had 3 auditions so far for tv and film. They’re getting 4 to 5 commercial auditions and 10-15 voiceover auditions per month. Only a handful of clients have booked a job or two this year. The numbers indicate that 2025 has jobs available- which is fan-freakin-tastic but the amount of gigs has slowed waaay down.

So, what can we actors do? I am going to suggest something radical. Don’t do anything extra. Take the auditions as they come, stay in classes or coach if you’ve already been doing it. But don’t run to do new headshots. Don’t run to meet all the casting directors you don’t know. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Do something dangerous like LIVE a little more.

How do we live a little more?

I say, when the going gets slow…it’s time to slow down with it.

Meaning…have you got some hobbies you’ve always wanted to start but were always “too busy”? I’m looking at you Duolingo lessons!  Do you have plans to see a doctor or specialist for that twinge in your knee but felt like physical therapy would eat up too much of your time? Do you never plan vacations until the last minute because a job may pop up any day now? If you have been putting dreams, doc appts or life on hold..now may be a good time to see what you can ease into.

And I mean EASE back into. Take your damn time and for the love of everything please make sure it is affordable for you. Because a slower booking rate means the money must stretch. So start off slow ya’ll.

Personally, ya girl is getting back into gardening. I have a lovely little backyard out in the valley of LA and it has been calling my name to spruce it up and grow some lettuce, and some arugula, and some cucumber and some beets. Gardening is always at odds with my go go go Aries AF nature. But I need a daily reminder that its okay to go slow and enjoy the fruits of my labor (pun ALL THE WAY INTENDED) one day at a time.

You got this friends. Ease your way into some sustainable joy this spring.

Sustainably and Artistically yours,

Chivonne Michelle
