Let’s talk about costumes as an actor…

Hey Hey Artistes!

Let's talk about costumes!

Which ones do you currently have in your closet? Do you have your commercial colors? (Think primary colored t-shirts/tanks & tailored shirts) Do you have your "lawyer" suit in a cut and color that shows you belong on all eight seasons of Suits? Do you have an outfit that makes you feel your best and authentic self that you can put on for an industry meeting or event? If not, I would highly recommend that you head to your nearest thrift store or online resale store to get yourself ready for the next year of auditioning.

I also recommend putting all of those items in an "audition" section of your closet - so you can grab 'em whenever you get a last minute audition without needing to do the laundry (or have to head to target at the last minute, where they don't have your size - that ever happen to you too?)

It's like if you have a uniform for your day job - you should also have some uniforms for your day job of auditioning too.

And for those of us who like to add a little makeup to our costume design - I have some tips for the top of a new year.

1. Check on your makeup brushes! When was the last time you washed em?

2. When was the last time you bought a new set of brushes?

3. Do you have a gold standard for your foundation & mascara?

4. A tried and true pop of color that looks fabulous on your skin tone?

There are some lovely sales on websites right now. We swear by Fenty & Ilia...and no we are not sponsored by those brands..yet.

And last but not least attend a clothing swap! Clothing swaps are a wonderful way to pick up new to you clothing - FOR FREE BEBE! See if any of your friends who are in your size range - want to hang out and trade clothes that they're no longer using. Also at clothing swaps - don’t pay strict attention to sizing - try that ish on! Every brand is different and clothing wears/stretches/shrinks over time so be flexible!

The SAS is hosting a clothing in January - if you're in the Los Angeles area -come join us!

Come to The SAS Clothing swap and see if you can start your 2025 in style for the free! And don't worry about taking your leftover clothing home - all leftover clothing will be donated to The Veterans of America. There will be light bites and bevys as well.

Come for the clothing & stay for the community!

What to bring: yourself & clothing that you'd like to trade in/donate

When?: Friday, January 10th from 4pm to 7pm at The SAS Studio in Van Nuys.

RSVP: https://thesustainableartiststudio.as.me/clothingswap

Feel free to share this swap with any actors/writers/industry folk you know - just make sure they rsvp!

Sustainably and Artistically yours,
